SINFONIA is a two movement work that explores diametrically opposed sonic opposites and attempts to push the limits of the string orchestra. I wished the audience to enjoy the sensation of an orchestra being pushed near the breaking point--dancing on the edge of oblivion. The work was inspired by the color field paintings of Mark Rothko, White Over Red in particular (seen below), and was commissioned by DUMBO Space for the 2008 DUMBO Arts Festival .
