Stephen Cabell

Stephen Cabell (b. 1984) is a New York-based composer of sonically engaging and arrestingly wrought music that attempts to grab the listener from the very first moments and never lets go. String Quartet No. 2

  • Instrumentation: 2 violins, viola, cello
  • Duration: 10 minutes
  • Completed: 2008

My String Quartet No,. 2 is a two movement work which explores the pulls of both tonality and pantonality in my music. The first movement is an adagio which does this in an introspective way. The second movement, however, is an extroverted romp with fuguetti and abrasive harmonies. The first movement was choreographed by Donald Borror as part of the Choreographer/Composer Collaboration seminar at The Juilliard School.
